Spoilers ahead! Red Dead Redemption is such a wonderful game that if you haven't played it yourself, you should do that and experience the amazing story first. I recently finished playing Red Dead Redemption on PS3. It was Saturday night, November 16th, 2024. I was originally torn on whether I should get LA Noire or RDR. After contemplating it, I bought LA Noire. For whatever reason, that game refused to install on my PS3. Even after buying a second disc, the game still wouldn't install. After the second disc failed, I gave up and bought RDR instead. I'm honestly glad I ended up with RDR instead. It was genuinely one of the greatest games I've ever played. Almost everything this game does seems perfect. Despite coming out in 2010, the world still looks incredible. There were many moments where I'd just stop to take in the beauty of the virtual environment. Cholla Springs, Tall Trees, Nuevo ParaĆso, among others, legitimately feel like real, living places to me. One of the most memorable moments for me was right after Dutch died. When I was descending the snowy hills, the sun shone through the trees in a way that made my jaw drop. I could nearly feel the warmth of the rays of light. I would've taken screenshots if it wasn't for the fact the PS3 doesn't have that feature. The only place that really disappointed me was Great Plains, since it seems so small and dull. The story touched me. John Marston's reluctant adventure through the frontier to kill his old friends, his reaction to the Old West dying, and his interactions with everyone around him kept me intrigued and smiling. I was surprised when I realised that the story continued after reuniting with John's family, since I thought that after reuniting with them, the game would end right there. John and Uncle's deaths were a huge twist that I didn't see coming (I guess God really did have a reason for keeping Uncle alive). Jack's eventual revenge on Edgar Ross was extremely satisfying to me. Ross wouldn't let John leave his violent past behind, and killed him in the end for no reason other than winning a few medals, recognition, and inflating his own ego, so seeing Ross' own violent past catch up with him, leading to his own death, was cathartic. The music of RDR is lovely, and adds so much more to the game. While the ambient music and regular background music is nice, the sung songs are my favourite in the whole game. Deadman's Gun is one of the greatest credit themes in gaming, since, the way I interpret it, it represents the situation surrounding Jack's killing of Ross. He won't just accept his dad's death, they've taken everything from him, giving him a reason to fight. Jack will kill Ross with same gun his dad owned, and no amount of luck will save Ross from his death. As for "And all the storms you've been chasin', about to rain down tonight, and all that pain you've been facin', about to come into the light", I believe that signifies not only Jack's pain finally coming out, but alludes to a potential future where Jack exposes all the pain Ross caused to the public ("the light").
